The two videos I choose to watch were the Buddhism and Hinduism one. The reason I choose these two videos was because I was interested in learning more about what each of these religions had to do with art. I am also taking a religion class, so I know a bit about these two religions. I thought it would be interesting to see how art relates to these two religions.
In the Buddhism video, I learned about Buddha and his history with the world. It explained the birth of Buddhism in India and the spread to other lands. I learned the type of person he was and what he wanted for the people. His spread his teachings through Indi. Before watching this video, I didn’t realize Buddha had an influence on art. When someone thinks of Buddha they relate him to the religion of Buddhism, but they may not think about the art that he did. It was interesting that in the artwork, they all have a meaning. There is a story that is told when looking at art. I found it interesting how much detail was put into these pieces of art. The one that showed all the different people caught my eye because there was so much to it. There was a lot of detail in each persons face and body. There were also animals on there, which were detailed as well. I like how it showed the Mahabodhi Temple. I would of never known about this unless I saw the video.
In the Hinduism video, I learned there is art of architecture in this religion. It shows the architecture and art in India. It shows Varanasi, Mamallapuram, and Jhajurho. They can worship anywhere. I learned about the light they show during a ceremony, which is when they use the “removal of pain.” Like Buddhism, their art is greatly detailed as well. There are many gods and goddesses in their art and architecture. Hindu worship does not focus on temples, unlike Christianity. Lastly, I learned some of the major comparisons of Christianity and Hinduism.
The videos were similar to the reading when touching on the key concepts of Buddhism and Hinduism. The video on Buddhism talked about the Eightfold Path and what Buddha wanted people to know and learn. It showed a temple and art that was put into the temple.
I personally thought these videos were not as interesting as I would have expected. It was interesting to see the different arts in each place, but the history part was uninteresting to me. I like videos because I’m able to put a picture to words, but these two videos were not as interesting as previous videos that were watched. What I enjoyed about the videos is that we were able to see the different arts in the video. I learned that these are not types of places I would be interested in seeing nor visiting.
